Submit Course Booklist

Placing Materials on Course Reserve

The Office of Curricular Support supplies the Blaisdell Medical Library Reserves Services unit with lists of all required and recommended readings for all SOM-required courses. Instructors need not submit a Reserve Booklist Form for these classes.

To ensure Reserve readings for non-required SOM courses are available to students by the beginning of classes, instructors must submit booklists four weeks prior to the start of classes.

Booklists received after the deadline may take up to three weeks to process due to peak workload constraints at the beginning of the quarter and the delays involved in retrieving loaned material.

Please provide as much detail regarding the requested item as possible to expedite service. Reserves Services will place on reserve the latest edition owned by the library. If a different edition is required for your course, please note the edition and year on the Reserve Booklist Form. If the library does not own the requested material, a collection development librarian will review the requested material for possible purchase and addition to the collection. However, the library cannot guarantee that the items will be purchased or a date by which they will be available for use.

Personal Copy Material

Instructors may choose to place copies of personally-owned textbooks and other materials on Course Reserve. Please indicate on the Reserve Booklist Form if submitting personal copies.

All personal copies of photocopied material submitted to Reserves must comply with the University's Copyright Policy (Policy and Procedure manual sections 250-01 and 250-03) specifically as it pertains to Reserve collections.

To avoid processing delays, please include the copyright statement, name of journal/book the piece came from, and author of the piece on each photocopied article or chapter you provide.

Reserve Services cannot accept a previously submitted photocopied item unless:

  1. The instructor requests or receives permission to use the material.
  2. The library has blanket permission to use articles from the journal. Please consult the Copyright Clearance Center Database (http://www.copyright.com) to see if the library can get permission to use your journal article. This pertains only to physical copies being placed on Reserve, it does not provide clearance for the provision of material through Electronic Reserves.

Please direct questions regarding booklists, personal copies, Library Copyright policy, and electronic reserves to the Blaisdell Medical Library at (916) 734‑3529. If you prefer, you may send comments or questions to bmlres@lib.ucdavis.edu.
